What does wellness mean to you?

Wellness is not just about feeling ok or not being sick. Wellness is vitality. It's a sense of fully being alive. Feeling happy and healthy in your body and in your mind. I believe all true wellness springs from a state of inner contentment, self love, and balance.

What has been an important lesson in your self-care/self-love journey?

I think the biggest thing is that it's never too late to take care of yourself, and remembering that you are enough- just as you are. Sometimes people think they're too far gone -- "who me? I could NEVER learn to meditate." Or "gosh, I would never have a chance to eat mindfully - I only have 5 minutes to eat while I'm working and frantically checking email." Or, "maybe one day - but I'm not at that point yet (or I'm not enough/ I'm not worthy enough)."

These are thoughts I used to believe myself. But something really interesting happens when we open ourselves up to new experiences and new ways of thinking. We stop feeling so limited/constricted. When we recognize that we can start with teeny, tiny ways of taking care of ourselves and that this care -  it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Even if we've had a rough and tough day, even if we've messed up, even if we're exhausted, we can make a choice, in every moment to choose self-care, to choose self-kindness. For me this has been one of the most empowering and inspiring elements of my own journey. It's never too late to start taking care of yourself.

What are your favorite ways to engage with your community in DC and beyond?

I love being a wellness and stress-reduction guide in various capacities. Sometimes it's working one-on-one with a client to help her identify and take action on adding really creative, joyful things into her busy life. Other times, it's teaching a 'Stress-Less' Workplace Wellness session or leading a group of people in a guided meditation via my women's circles and meditation workshops. Ultimately I feel like my mission is to help people remember to enjoy the journey of life. Sometimes it's tough, sometimes it's easy, but there are always opportunities to find meaning, evolution, and joy.
